I’ve known for some time that I am going to start blogging. I’m not usually short of ideas, commentaries…and even some genuine insights. These are all things I’m planning to bring to my blog and I’ve been looking forward to it. I’m sure that there’ll be plenty to inspire me – whether it’s frustration, amazement, or occasionally the penny dropping about something or other. So, once I’m up and running, things will be just fine.
But, how do you start?
Let’s face it, starting is important in life, it determines a lot – it’s page one of a novel, it’s leading into the first corner in a Formula One race, it is getting your initial marketing message right if you’re a new entrant in the IT marketplace. Starting right can be the make or break for many things, and it is often specialized and distinct from the rest of whatever-it-is-you’re-doing. After all, this blog is not an article or a white paper, where you can simply introduce the topic. A blog is far more varied and it’s far more subjective. So it’s about me as much as whatever I write about, and I want you to be inspired to return – yet if all I do is start with a bio and some dull, inert phrases about my areas of potential composition, I’m likely to lose any intended audience almost before I’ve begun. Yet, as Memorial Day dawned, I knew I could not delay writing any longer as my first posting is scheduled for Tuesday May 27 [on my desk there’s a paperweight that my wife bought me – it is inscribed that “The ultimate inspiration is the deadline” – and there are few mantras that I subscribe to so thoroughly!].
As I procrastinated, I happened to glance at the TV schedules and thankfully found what I’d been looking for – tonight (well, last night by the time you read this…and if you want to check my fact!) there was, believe it or not, a broadcast of the “Movie Preview Awards”. Yes, that’s right, there are awards for trailers!
So, I am pleased to announce that you are now reading the Best New Blog Preview of 2008 – in the category of ‘New blog previews premiered on May 27th and written by English people who moved to Colorado in 1997, and that cover a potpourri of IT, storage and occasionally other interesting things that are worthy of note, but where the ideas are not ripped off from anything other than the best sources’.
Phew! That’s that then. I’ve started. For my forthcoming, regular blogs you’ll see that I’ll have entries in many other categories – documentary, fiction (I hope you’ll be able to tell the difference!), comedy, science fiction and, no doubt, travel. Whatever the topic – storage, technology, the vagaries of our world – you can relax knowing two things: first, that you’ll be reading from an award-winning source, and second, that I’ll never have to start again…
